EOR Methods
Energy
Primary production technique usually offers access to only a small portion of initial oil in place of oil reservoirs. Secondary recovery methods are able to increase production performance to a third or greater value. Above 50% of a reserve's initial oil content can be attained by tertiary Recovery or enhanced oil recovery (EOR), depending on the type of formation and the EOR technology employed.
Our petroleum engineering group studies macro and micro-scale recovery of heavy oil processes (e.g., SAGD, VAPEX and hybrid SA-SAGD) and conventional oil production technologies (e.g., water flooding, gas injection, gas gravity drainage and surfactant flooding) in homogeneous and heterogeneous porous media. The research studies are conducted through experimental and mathematical modeling investigations.
